Another year and another E3 comes a bunch of great announcements and news to look forward too. Like the XBox One Backward Compatibility or maybe A FREAKEN FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE! Then there is also Bethesda’s news on Fallout 4. This has me thinking on big picture stuff now with Bethesda and one of my favorite brands, the Elder Scrolls series.
With Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) in full swing now on consoles, this probably means we won’t get to explore the entire continent of Tamriel in a single player Elder Scrolls game in the near foreseeable future. It could also mean we won’t get to see a cooperative mode either as both of these would directly compete with ESO, but that doesn’t stop new games from being made. What that could mean is a more engaging storyline and an open world built around that, sort of like Skyrim. Instead of an entire country to explore like the previous three games, we’ll probably get a few large towns and villages that are within or just over a border. That could still mean large open worlds but not the entire country any more. Think GTA or Red Dead Redemption. Both are large open worlds, but they don’t consist of the entire country, but of large connected cities and surrounding areas you go to.
I still hope for that true cooperative, all of Tamriel, Elder Scrolls experience (that’s fully moddable) one day, but for now, it looks like I’ll settle for ESO. I’m looking forward to spending time with it soon.
Man I can't wait for Final Fantasy 7 remake. I do also hope that Elderscrolls continues to surprise us with new and interesting things. I still feel that a full world exploration might still be in the cards since ESO is not by the actual studio. It would also have such a different feel then an MMO version of the same game.ReplyDelete
No doubt on the different feel. But ESO still concerns me that it would hinder later games.Delete
I think the Elder Scrolls 6 is in the near future. Skyrim came hot on the heels of Fallout New Vegas, if I recall correctly. Plus, Zenimax is in charge of development for ESO, not Bethesda. Of course we won't see it for at least a year as Fallout 4 is coming this year, but I'd say the wait is probably shorter than you'd think. I'd be willing to wager it's in development as we speak.ReplyDelete
I think it was fallout3 then dishonored then new Vegas and finally skyrim. Really looking forward to ES6 after what they can do for fallout4.Delete
you are most likely correct...Todd Howard made a statement that they have been working on FO4 for the last 7 years , or something like that...Delete
I am looking fwd to playing ESO but since I don't have a lot of money to spend for entertainment..I am holding out for Fallout 4 ...... when ESO base game lowers the price I'm in....you bet ,then.... the next big thing from Bethesda should be ES6...we can ride that one all the way to 2020 ....perhapsReplyDelete
Heck yeah. I hope to get a lot of time out of ES6, just hope it comes out before 2020 though. :)Delete
