Blaugust Day 12: Izlain's Writing Prompt

know-your-roll.jpg

As I’m reading through Blaugust posts for ideas to support my fellow bloggers, I came upon Izlain’s Know Your Role post. In there, he left a writing prompt that I think I’ll tackle for today -

Do you find it difficult to play a role outside of your typical class choices? This can be in an MMO, MOBA, single player RPG or any other game that uses class as a distinction for gameplay.

Since I like being a jack-of-all-trades, I tend to want to play every role. Funny enough, not all games offers such a role, so I have to pick and choose which role I want to fulfill for each game. The kicker is that I don’t choose the same roles between games. One game I may be a tank role, another I take on range dps, and another I take on casting support.

Once I get comfortable with the role I chose for a game, it becomes difficult for me to switch to another, but if I make that transition, it then becomes difficult switching back. Kind of like riding a bike, if you had to put the training wheels back on for a day when switching between them. Oh well, that’s why it’s called jack of all trades, master of none. Can’t we just have EverQuest 1 bards in all RPG’s please? It would make my life so much easier.

How about yourself, dear readers? Do you stick with a particular role in games? Please take on this writing prompt for yourself, it would be interesting to know.
